10 Days Around Kilimanjaro. One Extraordinary Night Inside the Crater.
Experience Mount Kilimanjaro at its most extraordinary on a private 10-day expedition combining the Northern Circuit with a rare overnight at Crater Camp. Journey through rainforest, heath, alpine desert and the remote northern slopes before climbing into the summit crater and spending the night at extreme altitude beneath the roof of Africa.
Private departures · Premium service · Expert local mountain team
Most people climb Kilimanjaro to reach Uhuru Peak. The Ultimate Expedition is designed for travelers who want the journey itself to become the destination.
The Northern Circuit circles much of the mountain before the summit approach.
The Crater Camp experience takes you into one of the most extreme sleeping environments on Kilimanjaro.
A private premium expedition gives you greater control over pace, comfort, service and logistics.
Your group does not share the expedition with unrelated travelers.
Experience one of Kilimanjaro's most extensive routes, including its quieter northern slopes. The Northern Circuit is widely described as the longest major route and offers nearly 360° of mountain scenery.
Spend a night around 5,750 m inside the crater region, subject to park rules, conditions and guide approval. This is an exceptional but high-altitude experience generally offered on private/special-request departures.
Ten trekking days provide more time than shorter routes to progressively gain altitude.
Spacious accommodation, dedicated dining facilities, quality sleeping systems and enhanced camp service.
Your schedule, pace and expedition experience are centered around your private group.
Crater Camp is not simply a luxury campsite. It is an overnight at extreme altitude. The ability to sleep there depends on your acclimatization, health, weather, mountain conditions and the judgment of the expedition team.
Symptoms and overall condition checked regularly throughout the expedition.
For appropriate emergency use according to the guide team's protocols.
Mountain first-aid equipment carried throughout the expedition.
Reliable emergency communication procedures.
If continuing becomes unsafe, the expedition changes course. The summit or crater overnight never takes priority over safety.
Gradual acclimatization, slow ascent and reporting symptoms — as emphasized by TANAPA visitor guidance.
The Northern Circuit extended with the rare crater overnight.
Recommended total Tanzania stay: 12–13 days. Each day is a chapter in your signature expedition.
Welcome to Tanzania
Airport pickup from Kilimanjaro International Airport. Transfer to your premium hotel.
Enter the Wilderness
Drive toward the western gateway of Kilimanjaro. After park registration, your expedition begins beneath the rainforest canopy. The day is intentionally moderate.
Premium experience: Your camp is set up before arrival. Welcome tea → camp orientation → health check → dinner.
Overnight: Mti Mkubwa Camp
Into the High Moorland
The forest gradually gives way to heath and moorland. Kibo begins to appear across the landscape.
Overnight: Shira 1 Camp
The Shira Plateau
A deliberately controlled day. Instead of racing upward, you spend another night at altitude. Your guide can use the afternoon for an optional acclimatization walk depending on conditions.
Overnight: Shira 2 Camp
Climb High. Sleep Lower.
One of the most important acclimatization days. You climb significantly higher during the day, then descend before sleeping.
Overnight: Moir Hut
Into the Northern Wilderness
Turn north. The character of the mountain changes completely.
Overnight: Buffalo Camp
The Quiet Side of Kilimanjaro
A relatively gradual northern traverse. The objective: Stay healthy. Stay hydrated. Build adaptation. Your private guide team monitors how you respond to the altitude.
Overnight: Third Cave Camp
The Final Camp Before the Summit
The mountain becomes stark. Kibo dominates the horizon. School Hut becomes the final conventional camp before your crater experience.
Overnight: School Hut
THE CRATER EXPERIENCE
Today you enter the high summit zone. Your route climbs toward the crater region.
Crater Camp: You arrive at one of the most extraordinary campsites on Kilimanjaro. The volcanic walls surround the campsite. Depending on conditions and permitted activities, the surrounding crater landscape may offer views of features such as glacial remnants and the volcanic interior.
Overnight: Crater Camp
THE SUMMIT
Depending on the exact operating plan, the summit attempt may be scheduled from the crater region according to guide assessment, weather and conditions.
Then begin the descent. The descent continues to the southern side and eventually toward Mweka Camp.
Overnight: Mweka Camp
From the Summit to the Forest
Descend through the rainforest.
Evening: Hot shower. Fresh clothes. Celebration dinner. A very different feeling from Day 1.
Overnight: Premium hotel
Crater Camp is one of the rarest experiences available on Kilimanjaro. Located at roughly 5,750 m near the summit crater, it places you inside the mountain's volcanic environment at an altitude most trekkers only pass through briefly. It is generally operated as a private/special-request experience because of the extreme altitude.
Black volcanic rock, crater walls and the stark high-altitude landscape.
Far removed from the camps lower on the mountain.
One of the highest overnight experiences on the route.
At sea level, luxury means larger rooms, hot showers and every modern convenience. At nearly 5,800 metres, luxury means having the right equipment, a warm place to sleep, excellent food, experienced guides and a carefully managed expedition. Crater Camp is about the privilege of location, not conventional luxury. Comfort is necessarily more limited at 5,750 m because the environment is extreme.
Premium hotel before and after the climb.
Hot breakfast designed around energy requirements.
Packed or freshly prepared nutritious lunch.
Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and recovery snacks.
Multi-course dinner. Vegetarian, vegan and major dietary restrictions should be requested in advance.
This gives you a better understanding of why a genuinely premium Kilimanjaro climb costs more.
Controls the expedition.
Provide additional supervision and support.
Additional support according to group size and summit conditions.
Prepares food and accommodation.
Move the required expedition equipment and supplies.
Subject to permit availability, weather and guide approval.
Because this package approaches approximately 5,750 m at Crater Camp and 5,895 m at the summit, the insurance requirement is especially important.
This is a private expedition quote rather than a mass-market package. Prices vary by departure date, hotel category, group size and premium services selected.
