Private departures available throughout 2026–2027
Your seven-day expedition crosses dramatically different ecological zones as Kilimanjaro rises from tropical forest toward its glacial summit.
Your adventure begins beneath a canopy of ancient mountain forest.
The forest gradually opens into giant heather and moorland.
Vegetation becomes sparse as volcanic rock dominates the landscape.
The final ascent takes you into Kilimanjaro's cold, high-altitude summit environment.
At 5,895 metres, you stand on the highest point in Africa.
Your climb is reserved for your own travelers rather than being a scheduled join-group departure.
We deliberately use the 7-day itinerary. The additional time includes the Karanga overnight before Barafu — the 6-day version requires substantially longer trekking days.
Spacious walk-in accommodation gives you more room to change, organize equipment and recover after trekking.
Freshly prepared meals designed around the demands of a multi-day high-altitude expedition.
Your expedition is managed by a professional mountain crew with guides, porters and a mountain chef.
The guide team manages the expedition pace according to the group's condition and the day's terrain.
Each day is a chapter in your Kilimanjaro story. Click to explore the details.
Into the Mountain Forest
Your Machame expedition begins in the morning with a private transfer from your hotel to Machame Gate, located on the southern side of Kilimanjaro. After park entry procedures and preparation, you begin walking into the dense montane rainforest.
The trail climbs gradually through towering vegetation, winding beneath a canopy that filters the sunlight. The atmosphere changes quickly. The sounds of the town disappear. You are now inside Kilimanjaro National Park.
As you approach Machame Camp, your premium camp team will already be preparing your accommodation. Your evening includes: Hot drinks → freshen up → dinner → expedition briefing → rest.
Overnight: Premium Machame Camp
Leaving the Forest Behind
After breakfast, the landscape begins to change. The dense forest gradually disappears and is replaced by heath and giant vegetation. The trail becomes rockier and more exposed. As you climb toward the Shira Plateau, Kilimanjaro begins to feel much larger.
At approximately 3,810 m, you reach Shira 2 Camp. This is an important transition day because your body is now beginning to operate at significantly higher elevation. Premium evening: Warm welcome → hot drink → rest → dinner → altitude check → briefing.
Overnight: Shira 2 Camp
Climb High. Sleep Lower.
This is one of the most important acclimatization days of your expedition. You leave Shira and gradually climb toward Lava Tower. The landscape becomes increasingly barren. The lush vegetation of Day 1 is now a distant memory. You are entering Kilimanjaro's alpine desert.
Lava Tower — At approximately 4,630 m, you reach a significant altitude milestone. After spending time here, the route descends toward Barranco Camp.
Overnight: Barranco Camp — As evening approaches, Barranco Wall dominates the skyline. Tomorrow, you climb it.
The Barranco Wall
Today begins with one of the most memorable sections of the Machame Route.
Barranco Wall — From camp, the wall looks intimidating. But this is not technical mountaineering. You use your hands occasionally for balance while your guide helps you negotiate the route safely. As you climb higher, the view behind you becomes increasingly spectacular.
This is an intentionally shorter day. The goal is not simply to cover distance — the goal is to recover, acclimatize and prepare for summit night. Premium afternoon: Arrive early → lunch → rest → hot drink → hydration → mountain briefing → dinner → sleep.
Overnight: Karanga Camp
The Summit Gets Close
The trail climbs steadily toward Barafu. The landscape is now almost completely devoid of trees. Rock dominates. The summit of Kibo appears increasingly close.
Barafu Camp — At approximately 4,673 m, Barafu becomes your final high camp before the summit attempt. Your mountain crew prepares everything for the night ahead. Your afternoon is deliberately quiet: Eat. Hydrate. Rest.
Your guide conducts the final summit briefing. Your equipment is checked: Headlamp. Gloves. Warm layers. Water. Trekking poles. Camera. Everything is prepared before you sleep.
Overnight: Barafu Camp
The Summit Day
This is the day you've been preparing for. You normally begin the summit attempt during the night. The darkness is intentional. The climb is slow. Pole pole. Step by step.
Stella Point — At approximately 5,739 m, you reach the crater rim. From here, the final section leads around the crater rim toward:
Stand at the highest point in Africa. Take your photographs. Celebrate. Absorb the moment. But summit time is kept sensible because conditions at this elevation can deteriorate quickly.
Then comes the descent. You begin descending toward Barafu before continuing down to Mweka Camp. The descent is long, but the change in altitude is welcome. By the time you reach Mweka Camp, you are approximately 2,800 metres lower than the summit.
Tonight is different. You are no longer preparing to climb. You made it.
Overnight: Mweka Camp
Back to the Forest
Your final morning begins with breakfast at camp. The trail descends through the rainforest. The temperature becomes warmer. The vegetation becomes denser.
Mweka Gate — Your expedition officially comes to an end. After completing park procedures, your private vehicle meets you. Destination: Your Hotel. A hot shower. A comfortable bed. A proper celebration. And perhaps the first meal that doesn't come from a mountain kitchen.
Overnight: Premium hotel in Moshi
Arrive at camp each evening to find everything prepared for you.
Your tent provides enough standing room to change clothes and organize equipment comfortably — a significant upgrade over low-profile trekking tents.
Your accommodation is reserved for your expedition rather than shared with unrelated travelers.
A dedicated dining environment allows you to sit comfortably for meals and evening briefings.
Your crew prepares the camp while you trek. When you arrive, your accommodation is ready and waiting.
Meals are designed to prioritize carbohydrates, protein, hydration, calories, warm foods and variety.
Special dietary requirements can be accommodated when communicated before departure.

Blood oxygen saturation and pulse are monitored as part of the expedition's health checks.
Supplemental oxygen is available for emergency support according to safety procedures.
